How do I show where the foil goes?

Add an extra page to your PDF with the foil areas as solid vector shapes in 100% black, and everything else white. Foil goes on one side of the card. Not sure how? Send your design and tell us what to foil, and our File Assist service can set it up for you.

What's the smallest text I can foil?

10pt, with lines at least 2pt thick. Be careful with serif fonts: their fine details can be thinner than 2pt and may not foil cleanly. Bold shapes and logos give the best shine.

Will the foil line up exactly with my print?

Not to the millimetre: foil can move up to about 3mm. Design so the foil works on its own, for example a foiled logo on a plain area, rather than foil that has to sit inside a printed outline. Don't add the foil shapes to your printed design too, or a printed shadow could show.

Which foil colour should I choose?

Gold feels classic and premium, silver is clean and modern, copper is warm and on trend, and red is bold. All four stand out best on darker or plain backgrounds.

Will you check my artwork?

Yes. File Check is free and selected by default: our prepress team check size, resolution, bleed and more, and contact you if anything needs fixing. If you'd rather we fixed the problems for you, choose File Assist. We'll resize, add bleed, fix fonts and correct the layout for a flat fee. Nothing goes to print until the artwork is right.

Can I send my artwork later?

Yes. Place your order and email your artwork over when it's ready. Production starts once we have it.

The detailsbusiness cards

Foil business card printing, priced in seconds.

Metallic foil turns a good card into one people comment on and keep. Gold, silver, copper or red foil shimmers on your logo, name or pattern, and it sits flat on a velvety matt soft-touch finish that feels as good as it looks. They look expensive, but they're surprisingly affordable.

Choose standard 85 × 55mm or square 55 × 55mm, on 400gsm silk, 350gsm uncoated or 350gsm recycled silk card, with soft touch on one or both sides and rounded corners if you like. Pick uncoated with soft touch on one side for a back you can write on. Build your spec above and the price updates as you go, with delivery anywhere in the UK.

Before you sendArtwork

Artwork checklist.

Get these right and your business cards print exactly as designed. Our free File Check catches problems before anything is printed.

01Start from our foil template above for your size and sides.
02Supply a PDF in CMYK with fonts embedded or converted to outlines.
03Make your artwork the card size plus 3mm bleed on every edge.
04Add a foil page with solid vector shapes in 100% black wherever you want foil, and white everywhere else.
05Keep foiled text at 10pt or larger and lines at least 2pt thick. Avoid fine serif fonts.
06Keep foil at least 3mm from the trim edge.
07Foil can shift up to about 3mm, so don't rely on it lining up exactly with printed elements, and don't show the foil in your printed design.
